UNINA-PLINIVS provides near real-time visualization of expected damage from earthquakes and volcanic ash fall in the Campi Flegrei area. The product supports civil protection authorities by translating seismic and volcanic scenarios into spatially distributed impact maps, showing potential damage to buildings and infrastructure. It is designed to support emergency planning, preparedness and rapid decision-making during volcanic unrest and seismic crises.

The product visualizes impact assessment results based on hazard scenarios provided by INGV (Osservatorio Vesuviano).

Available Implementations

Earthquake Impact
Recorded seismic parameters are used to estimate ground shaking and expected damage, assuming isotropic ground motion patterns. To improve the reliability of these estimates, the seismic component is being upgraded to produce non-isotropic ShakeMaps that incorporate data from local accelerometric networks and site-specific information.

Volcanic Ash Fall Impact
Simulated tephra loading scenarios are translated into expected roof damage. Results are aggregated and displayed through the GOBEYOND platform for decision-support purposes.

Use Cases & Applications

It supports municipal and regional civil protection authorities during both pre-eruptive and post-eruptive scenarios, that is estimating damage from precursor earthquakes, and ash fall impact on buildings and roads. Both implementations are currently running for Campi Flegrei and the Campania region.
