Rapid Seismic Damage Assessment Model for Alpes-Maritimes

Description

The Rapid Damage Assessment model builds upon three main components:

  • A building exposure database for France (Negulescu et al., 2025), which has been extracted from the building census database at the municipality (and infra-municipality) level, provided freely by the national statistical database INSEE (INSEE-IRIS and INSEE-RIL);
  • Shake-maps (maps of seismic intensity), estimated locally by GeoAzur
  • The seismic damage assessment model Armagedom (Sedan et al., 2013), based on the semi-empirical vulnerability approach by Lagomarsino & Giovinazzi (2006).

Upon the detection of an earthquake, based on the produced ShakeMap, the distributions of damage (EMS-98 damage scale) and loss (injuries, casualties, shelter needs) are computed at the level of INSEE IRIS zones.
