Pozzuoli Living Lab

Co-developing volcanic and seismic risk management solutions in southern Italy

The Pozzuoli Living Lab was launched to support the development of tailored tools and strategies for a region highly vulnerable to both seismic and volcanic hazards, particularly in the Campi Flegrei area. Through the GOBEYOND project, local stakeholders, scientific institutions, and civil protection authorities are collaborating to co-design an integrated decision-support platform that enhances risk preparedness and emergency response.

Stakeholders involved:

Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II (PLINIVS and RISSCLab)

Municipality of Pozzuoli

HYDS

Vesuvius Observatory

First Living Lab Meeting 7 March 2024
The first Pozzuoli Living Lab meeting took place on March 7th, 2024, at the Civil Protection Headquarters of the Municipality of Pozzuoli. Organised jointly by the Municipality of Pozzuoli and UNINA-PLINIVS, the session gathered key regional stakeholders including the Vesuvius Observatory (INGV), the University of Naples (RISSCLab and PLINIVS), and HYDS, as the technical partner.

The goal of the meeting was to assess how the seismic and volcanic risks in Pozzuoli—especially from the Campi Flegrei caldera—can be better managed through digital tools. A major focus was on integrating EASE, a simulation-based emergency planning application developed by UNINA-PLINIVS, into the platform.
