GOBEYOND is a 4-year long European innovation action under the Horizon Europe framework programme aiming to develop a state-of-the-art Multi-Risk Impact-Based Early Warning System (MR-IEWS), moving from hazard detection to impact prediction for vulnerable populations and infrastructure.
The project aims to improve Disaster Risk Management (DRM) by equipping Civil Protection Authorities and first responders with advanced systems that enhance situational awareness and facilitate swift action during geo, weather and climate hazards.
Building on Success
Drawing inspiration from successful initiatives such as ANYWHERE (EnhANcing emergencY management and response to extreme WeatHER and climate Events) and leveraging services offered by Copernicus Emergency Management Services (CEMS), European Flood Awareness System (EFAS), European Forest Fire Information System (EFFIS), and European Drought Observatory (EDO), we're building upon a legacy of innovation to push the boundaries of what's possible in disaster response.
Our Objectives
Impact-Based Early Warnings
Transform forecasts and early hazard detections into actionable, impact-focused warnings. GOBEYOND highlights who and where will be affected, enabling targeted, informed decision-making during geo and weather emergencies.
Enhanced situational awareness
Integrate cutting-edge knowledge of geo and weather hazards with real-time and forecasted data into a unified MR-IEWS operational platform. This ensures emergency command centres in the EU and Mediterranean countries have comprehensive situational awareness during crises.
Site-Specific Warnings
Adapt impact-based early warnings to specific local vulnerabilities by incorporating community-specific risk and vulnerability data. This enables tailored, actionable guidance through pre-defined self-protection plans for at-risk populations and activities.
Co-design and testing with emergency authorities
GOBEYOND collaborates with regional authorities and municipalities across Europe through pilot sites. Real-world testing ensures the tools meet operational demands and address local challenges effectively.
Empowering Communities
Combine the expertise of researchers policymakers, and local stakeholders to foster community-driven innovation in disaster preparedness and climate adaptation.
